Travelled from Melbourne to Adelaide last month around 730kms and only stopped once to fill and when I got there I had 2L spare but light was obviously on...over 10000kms so far since Feb this year when I took ownership of it but damn it gets better with mileage...still same tyres as well, trip took just on 8 hours...

I am with you, nervous to go too far with the idiot light blinking in my face. Most I have ever put in was 3.9 gallons. I can get 37mpg if I am responsible. But, I am rarely responsible. . .

Dang, that's impressive as is, much less trying to find ways to improve. Curious, did you change sprockets to lengthen gearing (down in rear or up in front)? I know I saw an improvement just from doing that, but I am getting only half the mileage. Though I do fill up with 1.5 gallons still in tank, so I know I could go more. My mileage is still only 37mpg (best) 34mpg (median) 31mpg (worst). Ok, not half now that I am doing the calculations, at 400km's(250miles) with say 4.75 gallons, you are getting 53.6mpg!

250/4.5=55.6mpg, 250/5=50mpg. Nice to dream, but I end up "enjoying" more than not and that is counting the down 2 in the rear sprocket I did.  :020:

Ok a little premature I havent hit the 400k mark just yet...my best is 382k and filling 18L, so 1L or so left...the gauge and warning light are pretty much spot on, so dont be afraid to rely on them...

I found I get my best consumption rolling in 5th and as low as 60km/h, maybe that makes a huge difference, because 1st to 4th are quite snappy and find 5th has enough grunt at low speed...

Im working on insuring a clean intake by possibly bypassing the crank breather and stopping the oil fumes but once done I'll post my findings, just waiting for a mini filter and piping to arrive and I'll get started...

No, I have not changed sprockets or gearing...

Cheers

I have got close to 350k's on a trip up north one day when there were speed cameras and HWP everywhere and we had to stick pretty close to the 100kph speed limit for a majority of the first stint. Basically used 4th, 5th and 6th for most of the ride. This bike has got so much grunt that is all you really need in those conditions.

I also went on another trip that was in the middle of nowhere and the light came on at 160-170  :745:

Don't trust "range" meters. I use the tripmeter and know from experience with the bike, relatively sedate highway riding gives me about 39-40 mpg and riding like a twat gives me about 33-35 mpg. 160 safe range riding that way and 190 safe range riding like a geezer. Life is somewhere in the middle.

43T rear sprocket.
